The West African Women Association(WAWA) is non-governmental organisation (NGO) with its presence in the fifteen West African Members Countries of ECOWAS comprising of both the Anglophone and Francophone Countries and its heaquarters in Dakar, Senegal

Pursuant to the decision A/DEC/7/83 by the Summit of the ECOWAS Heads of States and Government held in May 1983, the West African Women Association [WAWA] was tasked with mobilizing women in the sub-region to support the social and advocacy aspects as well as in the involvement of peoples in the ECOWAS area in the process of African integration.

The National chapters in each country comprises several organizations and Community based organisation within the subregion as well as individual members, including the young generations whose useful expertise for the association is acknowledged. Read More

OBJECTIVES
Any woman, organization, Network or Federation of women interested in empowering women in Africa, the citizens of ECOWAS, educated or not committed to taking part in the struggle for equity and gender equality in West Africa can be a member of WAWA. Read More

The overall objective of WAWA-AFAO is to mobiles women from all the 16 ECOWAS countries around the problem of African economic integration through real consideration of gender issue in dealing with African women’s concerns. Read More
